Although the beginnings of Northreach are shrouded in mystery, the residents claim ancestry to an ancient race of elves, the Mer’Dwey, that inhabited the continent in ages past. The elves blood mixed with the local humans, making them stronger and smarter. Their human descendants eventually made their way south as the world cooled off, settling permanently in what is now Northreach, but what was originally called Wyvyndsrilde.
According to lore and legend, the elves withdrew back to their strongholds and cities and disappeared over a thousand years ago. No one knows why, and the topic is widely debated and researched in certain academic circles.
Northreach is situated in an area rich with lumber and minerals, as well as very fertile farmland. The Gash River, the river that runs through and around Northreach, is sourced somewhere in the Wilds and terminates at the western edge of Abston, Northreach’s only port-of-call. Most of the land under cultivation is generally around Northreach and it’s satellite villages, or by the banks of the Gash River. Most trade through the kingdom is conducted domestically, with the Gash River accounting for the transport of about 60% of all non-local goods.
The labor force is relatively educated, skilled, and productive, especially around the city limits of Northreach. About 75% of the labor force employed in the primary sector (farming, fishing, mining, logging). Another 15-20% are employed in the secondary sector (manufacturing). The remaining 5-10% are service industry jobs.
Northreach is most well known for its skilled artisans.
